Waiting for Vista but Kudos for Ubuntu !

Let's face it, for 4 years we are hearing that M$ will launch it's new version of desktop operating system windows codenamed as windows longhorn later to be renamed as windows vista for commercial launch. As they say in Hindi "Sabar ka Phall mitha hota hai" but that hasn't been the case for vista.Waiting for vista was not sweet let me tell you why - I installed vista after torrenting it on my modest BSNL Broadband Connection & Believe me, on a not that fast a connection of 256kbps or 32KB per second it took me round about 26 hours to download 3GB of Vista RC1 then I burned iso on the dvd & installed it.

Installing the vista rc1 takes about 25-35 minutes as compared to 60 minutes for XP which is very encouraging. But overall I am not very happy with vista rc1 firstly it shows way to much questions or balloons or UAC crap which is very frustrating at times & I've heard that by supporting IPv6 by default it will also put strain on already strained DNS servers by querying both IPv4 & IPv6 addresses which is scary because there is already noticeable difference between typing a web address & between opening site's first page(after that DNS Server caches the associate addresses) & the ping in Asia is thrice than that of Advanced economies. All I can say about vista and it's much hyped features like aero interface, searching etc. is not a major upgrade, it looks much like skinning XP with vista's theme that's it.The performance is 'even' not as good as in XP & You will have to struggle to find right drivers for various devices.

so is there any hope for a normal computer user?

YES

& that ray of life is UBUNTU it's OS with Linux kernel it's very stable you can run it without rebooting for days on an adequately configured computer but there is just one problem, the software support is not as wide as with Windows but Ubuntu looks like catching up with Windows even on that front as well.

Take a look at this picture : -

Obviously it looks like a morphed picture but it's definitely a good one.

One more reason why an open source is good for a developing country like INDIA is the scarcity of legal software vendors & cost associated with legal software's but since Ubuntu is free & anybody can download it & install it or can get it for 200 Rs on CD(Which is the cost for CD & Packaging). For Legal software's all I can say is that it's bit hard to find.Take my example If I want to buy a legal Software I will have to travel 120 Km to Chandigarh & then Commercial software's are generally very expensive as compared to open source software's and in future free alternatives will be as good as a commercial one(I hope or hoping against hope - Let's see).

OK on that happy note let me type 'good bye' to you guys - Putting one more entry in Black Hole :-)

What about Our Earth ?

Although I am not qualified enough to write something about this planet Earth with some credibility, but since I am a concerned Global Citizen I do feel that I should do my bit about it as this Earth is heading towards a disaster. There are some very plausible reasons to think in that way, Like we all know that there are limited resources that human beings can consume & this is not that nobody knows about it."This is like an elephant sitting in a small room & everybody knows about it but nobody wants to talk about it,since they believe that they can not do anything about it" but they are conveniently forgetting that only through discussion & knowledge sharing we will be able to stop the monster of global warming & other environmental disaster.Which is so 'very' important.

Just look at the way a responsible nation like US is behaving when it comes to environment.Retracting from Kyoto Protocol treaty which is aimed at reducing Global emission is manifestation of this.US which is largest emitter of carbon-dioxide should not behave in such an irresponsible way.

At last as they say "DO SOMETHING - ANYTHING" - OK that's enough I am getting Emotional about Earth.

OK BFN (Bye For Know)

"Hey where is my Car I have to go to a nearby karyana(grocery) Store" - "A concerned Global Citizen" Huuh :-)
